Hurricane cancels ferry and disrupts traffic
This is the first real storm of the year over the north. But the lesser “Claus” does not have enough power for a storm surge. His breath is enough for only a few hours.
Hamburg / Vyk Fuf (dpa / lno) – North experienced the first real storm of the year. Lesser “Claus” Thursday brought Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg strong cheer and heavy rain showers.
Many times there were disruptions in rail traffic. In Hamburg, a tarpaulin was flowing in an overhead line between the main train station and Herberg. According to a railway spokesperson, the problem was quickly eliminated. After a tree fell on the tracks by noon the line between Elmshorn and Pineburg was taken within just an hour until it was free again. An ICE may stop in front of an obstacle. As a precaution, the hamburger Hochbahan allowed his underground trains to run at low speeds on above-ground sections of the route with tree cover.
The Hullig line of the Wyker Steamship Shipping Company disrupted its operations on Thursday. The shipping company said that there should be additional connections between Schlüttsiel and Halligen Hooge and Langeneß on Friday.
The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) on Friday night predicted a water level of about one meter higher than normal for flooding and one meter higher than normal for flooding in Hogenum (both in the district of North Friesland). For Hamburg (St. Pauli) one meter more water was expected than 75 centimeters.
The German Meteorological Service (DWD) had issued a severe weather warning due to the low movement from Scotland towards the Norwegian Sea and a high speed warning of force 11 on the North Sea coast. The wind should recede in the evening.
