“Game of Thrones”: why two swords are the stars of the new mega-series

The objects are much more important here than the people in the story…

“Game of Thrones” creator George R.R. Martin actually always knew it could also be the material for the long-awaited prequel “House of the Dragon” (Starting: Autumn 2022).

The filming of “House of the Dragon” on the English coast, the predecessor of the mega-series “Game of Thrones” in chronological order, has been going on for months.

Fans gaze at every photo greedily, looking through armor and flags to try to identify which families want to transport each other to the afterlife with dragons and catapults. On the net, – supposedly – some of the big wigs of some actors are ridiculed.

But it’s worth taking a look at two steel details.

Because in the prequel, which takes place hundreds of years before the famous friction between the Lannisters, the Night King, and the ignorant Jon Snow, two swordsmen will play the lead.

swords as stars

The stories of the rival Targaryens (Dragon Riders) families revolve around the two most famous blades, invented by author Martin for his world of ice and fire. Their names: Blackfire and Darksister.

They are used to tell the whole story based on insider information. According to the books, both weapons were forged from Valyrian steel, the best metal out there in the fictional “Game of Thrones” continent of Westeros.

Blackfair belonged to the later king Aegon Targaryen when it was conquered. He should not play a role in the series, but his relatives. Aegon II is said to carry the sword and fight some of the most spectacular battles in the series with it.

Against him, his relative: because Daemon Targaryen is the master of the Darksister, Blackfair’s sister Sword. The first season will revolve around the weapons and their owners.

What can fans expect?

“House of the Dragon” is based on the book “Fuer and Blut” by George R. R. Martin. The focus is on the Targaryens, who are among the most influential families who ruled the continent of Westeros a few centuries before Game of Thrones.

The special thing about them is their dragons, with the help of which they conquered Westeros and united its scattered kingdoms. But the good times don’t last long for the House of Targaryen, as the fight for the Iron Throne between half-siblings Rainera Targaryen and Aegon II, the so-called Dance of the Dragons, soon begins.
