Chisinau – Friday, November 12, 2021, 8:22 pm
Scotland are second in the table in Austria Group F of the now-defunct World Cup qualification.
The Scots won 2-0 against Republic of Moldova in Chisinau on Friday evening to settle the playoff ranks with 20 points after nine games. Nathan Patterson (38th) and Che Adams (65th) perfected the away win. Moldova’s Vadim Rata failed in the 82nd minute with a penalty from Scottish goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
Due to Scotland’s victory, Israel has no chance of making the top two even before the start of the duel with Austria in Klagenfurt.
The Scots have played in the World Cup eight times so far, but the last time they took part – in 1998 in France – was a long time ago. The final group game in Glasgow on Monday against group winners Denmark no longer has any significance for a table result.
Denmark also won the ninth game with a 3–1 win against the Faroe Islands.
