Lost wedding ring found again after 50 years in potato field

Benbecula. During a chat in the neighborhood, Donald McPhee learns about a Scottish elderly woman’s lost wedding ring: 50 years ago, 86-year-old Peggy McSween lost a piece of jewelry in a potato field. The hobby treasure hunter, who lives on the Scottish island of Benbecula, sets off with his metal detector to find his neighbor’s ring.

“I searched for three days and dug 90 holes,” McPhee told the Guardian. They discovered all manner of remains of drink cans and other garbage – the former potato farm has now become a meadow and a popular meeting place for evening beer.

The effort was rewarded: “I found the ring on the third day,” Scott said. “I was completely amazed. I had explored 5000 square meters and the odds were 1:1,00,000. It was definitely my best find.”

Boss: “I couldn’t believe it”

The owner of the ring had long given up hope of getting it. Her husband John, who had died a few years earlier and married McSween in 1958, gave her another ring as a replacement during the trip. “I couldn’t believe it, but suddenly there she was,” she said of the rediscovered wedding ring. “I thought I’d never see her again.”
