Zug – Munich 1:6
For Swiss champion Zug, the Champions League adventure ended prematurely. Central Swiss lost to Munich in the final group game 1:6 and thus missed out on qualification for the Round of 16. At the core of the defeat stood an unusually vulnerable Leonardo Genoni.
The six-time champion’s goal was muddled in the first three goals and had to make way for Luka Hollenstein after half an hour. But even with the replacement target, the Zuggars were no longer able to plow. And because Germany’s guests were more harsh on the offensive, there was also a runaway defeat in the end.
Lugano – Isberen Berlin 2:4
Because with Skelleftia, Lugano’s direct competitor for second place, received no points, Ticino had advancement on his hands. But Lugano could not take advantage of the good starting position. Chris McSorley’s team lost 4–2 to Eisbahn Berlin at home and were eliminated from the group stage.
Thanks to a double strike within 82 seconds by Loïc Vedova and Bernd Wolf, Lugano found his way into the game shortly after the half of the game and leveled the game at 2-2. “Bianconeri” did not respond to the defending German champions’ fresh opening goal (46th).
Adler Mannheim 1: 3 Lausanne
Lausanne celebrates the end of a reconciliation for the Champions League campaign. Vaudois, who had already been eliminated before the final group game, won 3–1 away from home against Adler Mannheim. Jiri Sekac (18th), Tim Bjohn (29th) and Benjamin Baumgartner (54th) also gave John Faust’s team a successful rematch. A week earlier, Lausanne lost 5–2 to the same opponent and thus prematurely missed the round of 16.
