Last week, hundreds of them gathered at a convention center in the heart of London, disguised as magicians and witches, to share their passions and meet some of the film’s actors and actresses.
Most visitors say they discovered Harry Potter when they were kids. But he continues to fascinate today, even as adults. When asked by RTS, a fan present at the convention explains: “For me, it’s nostalgia. There are a lot of people in my generation who grew up with Harry Potter. We’re one big family. It’s all about it.” There’s also a series for the ages. It’s not just for kids.”
A boon for tourism economy
It must be said that Harry Potter is a godsend for the English capital. Visiting filming locations, restaurants and other attractions inspired by the young magician along the trail would add about 5 billion francs to the British economy.
Mirafora Mina, the prop and graphic designer who designed the props used in the movies, now runs a shop that sells books, postcards and other items from the series. “Harry Potter is the person who brings the most tourists here. Maybe right after the royal family!”, she laughs.

According to, writer JK Rowling may have been excluded from the program because her remarks are considered transphobic (see box).
