Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno’s plane was to make an emergency landing in Washington on Saturday, where he was completing an official visit, but everyone was “fine,” his communications minister said.
In addition to the President, several ministers of the Quito government were on the board. He said in a statement, “The President’s aircraft faced a technical problem soon after takeoff from Washington DC.
“Moreno and all the occupants of the plane are fine and will return to Ecuador in the next few hours,” she said.
During his visit, President Moreno interacted with officials in the Biden administration and with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
The IMF approved a $ 6.5 billion aid plan for the country in September.
