“Sherlock” star Benedict Cumberbatch will star in a Netflix thriller series. “The 39 Steps” is based on a classic novel first seen as a Hitchcock film.
Streaming service Netflix has secured the miniseries “The 39 Steps”. “Doctor Strange”-And “Sherlock”Star Benedict Cumberbatch (44) will act in it, As reported by “The Hollywood Reporter” among others.
The thriller series is based on the detective novel “The Thirty-Nine Steps” by Scottish author John Buchan (1875–1940) from 1915. Alfred Hitchcock (1899–1980) had already filmed the book “The 39 Stages” (1935). In the Netflix series, the novel is brought into modern times. Cumberbatch plays the role of Richard Hannay, an ordinary man who is implicated in a great conspiracy to bring about a new world order. The actor will also be on the executive producer team. Edward Berger (51, “Patrick Melrose”) will direct writer L. Mark Smith (“The Revenant”).
