Disney is getting far more strides towards LGBTQ+ representation with the bisexual guide character of The Owl Household.
Collection creator Dana Terrace spoke about her Disney Channel sequence on Twitter, confirming that lead character Luz Noceda is bisexual. Terrace, who is also bisexual, said she intended to replicate her very own individual encounters in the animated sequence and was very open throughout the progress process about showcasing guide figures who are queer.
“I’m a awful liar so sneaking it in would’ve been difficult,” she tweeted. “When we ended up greenlit I was told by particular Disney management that I could NOT stand for any form of bi or gay romance on the Channel.”
But even in spite of some Disney figures’ hesitation, The Owl Property went on to feature a queer character as its guide. The Disney channel present follows 14-calendar year-outdated Luz who seeks to develop into a witch, regardless of her deficiency of magical qualities. Luz is also Dominican-American.
Though Terrace also shared that she does not, and will under no circumstances, fully align with Disney as a firm, she thanks the executives driving-the-scenes who allowed for the network’s milestone instant.
The Owl Dwelling sees Sarah-Nicole Robles voice the titular character as Wendie Malick, Gravity Falls‘ Alex Hirsch and Tati Gabrielle, Issac Ryan Brown and Mae Whitman spherical out the cast. The sequence, produced by Disney Television Animation, premiered on Disney Channel in January.
