The shock of the international match before E.M.
Austria is humiliated and shocked
The historic clap against Denmark threw the Austrian footballers back to World Cup qualification. However, national coach Franco Foda accompanies EM’s vision. But he also says that he wants to “rethink a few things” over the next few days.
Austria’s badly beaten captain David Alaba congratulated Danes after celebrating his team’s boss Franco Foda’s bud at the expected coaching debate. “Oh my god, there’s always this discussion. It’s our job,” he said after the historic 4–0 (0–0) defeat against Denmark in the World Cup qualification: “You have to be with him. It’s someone for me. Not a new thing. Now the field. “Actually, because this is not the first time Foda has come under public criticism. And that only about two and a half months before EM.
The first leg of the qualifying round for the World Cup to be held in Qatar next year gave Austria little hope of a successful tournament this summer. The team was brutally featured on Wednesday evening in Vienna before a 2–2 win against Scotland, a 3–1 win against the Faroe Islands. A few were considerate. He said he would “like to rethink a few things” over the next few days and promised: “We will again present a different picture at the European Championships.” There his team – now in Amsterdam and Bucharest – will meet in Group C against the Netherlands, Ukraine and Deutschland-Schreck North Macedonia. In its current form, a harsh awakening threatens.
“Speed and mobility” is lacking
Foda admitted that the Austrians lacked “speed and mobility” against Denmark, with the defense team winning all the goals and being partially deceived. On top of that, he did not create any significant opportunity for himself. “We wanted to let the ball run. Play the football bravely. But the opposite happened completely”, Alaba judged after the most competitive game failure on home soil. The defeat may be partly explained by the lack of personnel, with regular staff such as Defense Chief Martin Hennigger missing from Intrachat Frankfurt. Nevertheless, bitter results and a difficult start in the World Cup qualifier are on the books.
Austria’s Group F have four points and are five points behind the dominant dens. After EMA, for Foda, it only ranks second, which may be enough for the play-offs. He is optimistic about this, so he is not worried about his job. The former German international said, “We still have the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup. So I think there is no internal issue.”
“We often have black or white here”
Since assuming office in 2017, the 54-year-old has repeatedly had to fight critics, even though he has had some successes: he bought an EM ticket to the League of Nations in 2020 and rose to Austria. Nevertheless, doubts about his work, which were now rekindling. “We are often black or white here,” Foda said, recalling the situation prior to the 2016 European Championships. The then team’s boss, Marcel Kollar, had sparked great excitement with the first athletic qualification for a European championship in Austria – disappointing expectations.
“He believed Austria had to make it to the quarter-finals, but then saw that they were eliminated in the early stages,” said Foda, who also sees an opportunity in low expectations: ” Perhaps these are different omens. “
