As expected, the German national football team is avoiding big countries to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

According to the current ranking of the World Union of FIFA (27 November), after the last international matches in 2020, national coach Joachim Löw was selected as the 13th in the world. As the ninth-best country from Europe, Germany are ranked 1st in the draw for qualification groups on 7 December (6:00 pm) in Zurich on the way to Qatar.

The world ranking is still topped by Belgium, ahead of France and Brazil. Rankings are calculated using a complex equation, through which points are determined based on various variables such as the outcome and strength of opponents. The 6–0 defeat of the DFB selection in Spain had no serious consequences, at least for the qualifying draw.

The allocation of the first lottery pot is important, as doubles with other strong countries such as France, Spain, Portugal or England are excluded. As the best team, Switzerland led the rankings in Pot 2, ahead of Wales and Poland. Only the winners of the ten groups qualify directly for the World Cup.

Two play-offs for the remaining three out of a total of 13 European starting places, with ten runners-up as yet unqualified group winners from the League of Nations. The elimination round will be played from March to November 2021.
