According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake hit 90 kilometers west of Port-Villa on Tuesday (16/2/2021) at about 12.00 local time. Daily mail.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers. There is no tsunami warning after the shock.

This natural phenomenon occurred less than a week after the earthquake in the region measured a magnitude of 7.7, giving rise to a short tsunami.

Last week’s earthquake came after midnight on Thursday (11/2/2021) local time. It is located about 415 kilometers east of Wao in New Caledonia at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The US government’s NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the earthquake would cause dangerous tsunami waves to occur on many beaches.

It is said that in Fiji, New Zealand and Vanuatu, waves reaching 0.3 to one meter above high tide levels are possible.

A 0.3 meter wave hit Fiji, according to Feed Twitter of the island nation’s seismology department.

However, Fijian Seismology later rescinded its tsunami warning.

“On its evaluation, the Seismic Observatory has now confirmed the cancellation of the verification and issued all clear information to the entire Fiji group,” he said.

The Australian Meteorological Bureau confirmed in a Twitter post on Thursday (11/2/2021) that a tsunami had occurred.

At the time the bureau warned of the danger to Lord Howe Island, which is about 550 kilometers (340 mi) east of mainland Australia, but said evacuation was not required.

Residents of Port Villa, capital of Vanuatu, said they felt the earthquake, but there was no damage from the tremors or subsequent waves.
