Jર્ગrgen Klopp admits Liverpool defender after selecting Nat Phillips over Jorl Matip

Jજેrgen Klopp is “full of faith and confidence” in Nathaniel Phillips, given an unusual start at Brighton in the middle.

The 23-year-old has been playing in the defensive line since Liverpool saw West Ham earlier this season.

He will partner temporary defender Fabinoho as he is just starting his second Premier League.

Klopp admits that he constantly strives along his defensive line and wants continuity but the nature of the circumstances makes it difficult.

He said: “Again (another mid-half pair). He runs. They did really well against West Ham and Nat is a super boy.

“I don’t like constantly changing the last line but on the other hand he has to get a chance.

“I am full of faith and trust in him and he will give it all up.

Takumi Minamino has also been given a rare outing from the start as he has the advantage of a nook lifted by Curtis Jones.

“You need fresh feet,” Klopp continued.

“Curtis told me yesterday that he felt something and he couldn’t give the train but he is on the bench.

“So it was clear we needed another midfielder so I thought I’d bring Takumi inside.”

The German regularly laments the workload imposed on his players as the fixtures come thick and fast.

Liverpool are playing their third game in seven days and will host Ajax at Merseyside in just 72 hours.

Sadio believers have been rested and there is a significant omission with the Senegalese star.

They travel to the south coast where they aim to pick up three points against the lower Seagulls, although Klopp claims they are much better than their league position suggests.

The Germans lost their side in midweek as the Italian team produced a dazzling display against Atlanta in the Champions League.

Last week though they comfortably watched Leicester 3-0 at Anfield as they mocked their notable absence list.

Liverpool could also go to the top with a point at Amex Stadium, with Tottenham playing Chelsea on Sunday for at least 24 hours.
