China and Russia imposed Veto
The United Nations Security Council has a total of five permanent members. Only he has veto power to stop any proposal. Apart from this, the temporary 15 members do not have the right to stop any proposal. China, along with Russia, used this power to veto, denying the censure motion. G7 also condemned Myanmar
Meanwhile, the countries included in the G-7 have also issued a joint statement condemning the Myanmar army. The G-7 countries include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK and US.
Why did China stop Myanmar’s condemnation proposal?
China has been warning since the coup that sanctions or international pressure will only worsen the situation in Myanmar. In the past, China has long rescued Myanmar from international investigations in the Rohingya massacre case. China views its neighboring Myanmar from an economic and strategic perspective. Not only does it want to extend its reach from the Blate and Road Initiative in Myanmar to the Bay of Bengal, but is also planning to lay siege to India.
Dragon was angry with Myanmar’s government
China was pressuring Myanmar to approve the project of CPEC, an ambitious plan by President Xi Jinping. Suu Kyi-led government understood the move of China and hanged the CPEC plan. China had warned Myanmar’s civilian government many times before. In fact, China is working on a plan to connect the province of Greece to Myanmar’s three economic centers – Mandalay, Yangon New City and Kyopu Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
Aung San Suu Kyi was not seen since Monday
Aung San Suu Kyi, who headed the elected government, has not been seen since being detained by the military on Monday morning. Dozens of others are also in custody, including President Vin Myint, a member of his party’s Central Committee, and his personal lawyer. He is reportedly placed under house arrest.
China gives clarification on veto
When asked what China had proposed at the United Nations meeting, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Wednesday that the international community should create a conducive atmosphere to resolve issues between the Myanmar military and Suu Kyi. Wang said UNSC held an internal meeting on Myanmar. China attended this meeting. China is a neighbor and friendly country of Myanmar. We hope that all the parties in Myanmar will work in the national interest and public interest while maintaining political and social stability.
China is in the mood to create a favorable environment
He said that the international community should create a conducive environment to address the issue. The international community should work for political and social stability rather than inciting tension and complicating the situation. Wang also expressed surprise at the UNSC informal meeting when the document of consultation came out. We do not consider it good for solidarity and there should be a sense of trust in the Security Council.
