SINGAPORE: Fireworks will not be displayed on Marina Bay on New Year’s Eve to “reduce public health risks” amid the Covid-19 epidemic, organizers of the counting event said on Thursday (November 5).
Organizers of Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2021 said that the shelter will be replaced by fireworks at various locations in the heartland.
In a media release on Thursday, the organizers said the agencies were releasing details and more information would be provided in due course.

Around the bay, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) will present two exhibits to mark the turn of the new year: a light display illuminating the surrounding skyline as well as a projection show at the front of three landmarks in the area – Fullerton Mutual, Murtium and Art.
The first exhibition, titled Shine a Light, will feature 60 light beams from the promontory every night from 1 December to 31 December.
“The display represents a guiding beacon that reflects the spirit of the people of Singapore in boating through the epidemic and pathogenesis that emerges strongly in the new year – with a collective composition of rays illuminated in the sky created as a symbol of unity, positivity and resilience.” Said.
The second exhibition, titled Share Moment, is a community project that completes projection mapping on the facade of three landmarks in Marina Bay.
“Organized in partnership with the National Center for Volunteers and Philanthropy (NVPC), these projections will showcase student artistry from various local educational institutions and will be held overnight from 25 December to 31 December.”
The projection on the facade of the Art Science Museum will take place at night from December 26 to December 31.
“Inspired by the stories of the Good City – a vision in which individuals, organizations and leaders come together to do best for others – these projected articulators will depict moments in the past year where others from the outstanding community came together to inspire.” Said the media release.

Heartland fire work on TV
Heartland Fireworks and Scenes by Marina Bay will be broadcast during the New Year’s Eve music program presented by MediaCarp, entitled Let’s Celebrate 2021. It will be shown on Channel 5 and will be streamed online.
“The event will showcase international and local talent for presenting good music, dance and fashion in the new year. This includes the creative skills of local performers and the fashion and dance communities.”
Lim Ang Hwe, Chief Executive Officer of URA, said: “Marina Bay Singapore Countdown is a highlight that Singaporeans and visitors come forward every year.
“This year is all the more significant as it is a time to reflect on the end of a challenging year and the occasion to enter 2021 with new hopes.
“Since health and safety has been a priority, we have adopted a different format to ensure we can celebrate safely and meaningfully. We encourage everyone to join the count at home on New Year’s Eve.”
This year’s National Day celebrations saw fireworks at 10 heartland locations on the island.
