over water. In Pont-en-Royans, water is fun

This is the lowest point of the workers. This mass was formed 100 to 200 million years ago, submerged in this deep sea, below the Alpine fold. Gradually, the karst limestone undergoes water work, forming the gorges of Bourne. Dhar using a fault, opening the caves by rust, signing several revivals at the foot of the rock …

The Pont-en-Royans is located at the confluence of the Born and Vernisson rivers. These rivers go towards the Dramae, which is two thirds of the water coming out from the Versars. This makes the beautiful route des gullets.

Hanging house

In the Middle Ages, Pont-en-Roynes developed. This village is a strategic route, whose bridge (today Picard Bridge) has been thrown into this narrow plain. The only one between the Vercors and the Isère Valley. For the owner of the boats, the economy is developing around the wood of Versace. The Chadti runs through the rivers of Isser and Rhone to Marseille.

Between the 18th and 19th centuries, this activity around wood continued until the advent of other means of control. The entire Bourne Dam commissioned in 1879, until the construction of one of the oldest hydroelectric dams in France.

During the Renaissance, tall houses were built on the rock. Embossed wooden balconies are suspended above the boran, above zero. Classified as historical monuments, they still offer their curiosity. Imagine descent from a lavator falling directly into the river!

Passing through the Pont-en-Royans, Stendall, in his memoirs of a tourist, states that he only drank wine at his table, leaving something to be desired for water quality …

Water odyssey

In 2000, Pont-en-Royans signed a river contract with Workers Regional Nature Park for water safety. From the vast industrial wastelands that built a silk factory, then a woodwork and finally electrical equipment, the Water Museum was born under the pencil stroke of Italian architect Andrea Bruno. We owe him to the Museum of Contemporary Art at the Palace of Rivoli in Turin.

In this museum, water is presented in its entirety to raise awareness among the general public. Planetary issues, the impact of water on the climate, the distribution of water, about 60% of the body mass of the human body, the constitution of the Versus Massif, hydroelectricity… can be explored in interactive and educational infrastructure, 3D. Films and temporary exhibitions.

Incredible water strip

A unique place to discover within the water museum: water bar! 1,800 water from 140 countries. Sold in bottles all over the world! Water from poles from the icebergs, rain water from Tasmania, water from Scotland which goes into the composition of whiskey. Water tightness helps you see different textures and differentiate between dry water and oily water. A question of the palate!
