Istanbul The balls for the Europa League will be taken out in Istanbul on Friday afternoon. We show the lottery pots and thus potential opponents of Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Champions League draw is followed by the Europa League draw. The balls will be drawn again for the coming season in Istanbul on Friday. From the German point of view, Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt are the focus this time.
A total of 32 teams are involved in the Europa League draw. The final ten participants were only determined on Thursday evening. Among other things, Scottish representative Celtic Glasgow won against AZ Alkmaar – and could now rival Bayer Leverkusen in the group stage.
As in the Champions League, clubs from one country cannot be grouped together. There are also sanctions on teams from Russia and Ukraine that cannot be included in the group due to political conflict.
The game will be played on the following dates: Match Day 1: September 16; Match Day 2: September 30; Match Day 3: 21 October; Match Day 4: 4 November; Match Day 5: November 25; Match day 6: 9 December.
The group winners will each safely advance to the round of 16. The runners-up will play against the third-place finisher from the Champions League groups. The new thing is that the third party will still have the opportunity to stay in the European Cup. They would then compete against the runners-up in the new conference league and could then reach the round of 16 in the tournament.
