David Beckham – Inter Miami CF.
As part of his transfer to the Los Angeles Galaxy, there was an agreement that would allow the former England captain to own the MLS team for a discount fee.
He used this option in 2014 and the team played its first match earlier this year.
Shah Rukh Khan – Kolkata Knight Riders
Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan bought the cricket team in 2007 when the Indian Premier League was founded.
Celebrity owners – filmmaker and entrepreneur Juhi Chawla also owns it – and the franchise has gained a lot of popularity since winning the IPL in 2012 and 2014.
Russell Crowe – South Sydney Rabitohs
Sydney, movie star Russell Crowe bought Rabbitoh in 2006 with the court of businessman Peter Holmes.
Holmes remained down the court two years later amid rumors of a rift with an actor associated with a rugby league club.
Donald Trump – New Jersey generals
Before it happened One of the ambitions of the President of the United States, Trump, was to own a sports franchise and lure the NFL team.
Unable to do so, he bought the newly formed USFL’s New Jersey Generals American football team in the early 1980’s.
By 1986 the league had collapsed and many blamed the businessman for his demise.
Richard Branson – The London Broncos
The British businessman took over as president of the Rugby League club in 1997, promising to make him the best in the world.
The Broncos finished second in the Super League and reached the Challenge Cup final, but by 2001 Branson had gone and gradually declined.
Sir Elton John – Watford
Sir Elton John became president of the club at Watford in 1976.
His ambition was to take the team from the old fourth division to the first division – and he succeeded.
Under manager Graham Taylor, the Hornets finished second behind champions Liverpool during the 1982-83 season.
Sir Alto left the presidency in 2002, leaving an impressive legacy.
