British Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday confirmed his opposition to a new referendum on Scottish independence, the media reported.

Ballot, desired by the head of the Scottish Government, expects that Scotland, once independent, will join the European Union (EU). “In my experience, referendums are not particularly happy events in this country”Boris Johnson told the BBC, due to the deep split caused by the Brexit referendum in 2016, which was won 52% by the “Leave” camp.

Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon said on Saturday that he hoped Scotland would gain independence and be able to “join” the European Union, stressing that Brexit was done against the Scots’ wishes. While the British voted 51.9% for Brexit in 2016, Scots were 62% opposed to leaving the European Union.

Ms Sturgeon again requested for a referendum on Scottish independence after losing in her camp in 2014, when 55% of Scots said ‘no’ to independence.

“We didn’t want to leave and we hope to join you soon as an equal partner”Said, Ms. Sturgeon posted the SNP on her Freedom Party website.

A major SNP victory in local elections next May will put more pressure on London to accept a new consultation.
