Great Britain is looking to host the start of the Tour de France in 2026. In addition to the so-called Grand Department, phases are also planned in England, Wales and Scotland, as the Treasury Department announced in London on Tuesday.
People across the country should be able to experience the top game for free. Department head Rishi Sunak wants to provide a total of 40 million pounds (about 475 million euros) for sports applications when presenting his budget.
In addition to the start of the tour, Great Britain is also planning to host the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup. A portion of the funds will go to the campaign for a joint application with Ireland for the 2030 Men’s Football World Cup, the ministry further announced.
The move is part of the government’s plan to spice up the infrastructure of the relatively prosperous south east outside London and create similar living conditions across the country. 95 per cent of the investment for the start of the tour and 75 per cent for the Rugby World Cup is planned outside south-east England.
