Angus Robertson is standing outside the Tesco supermarket on Nicholson Street this afternoon, rubbing his shoulder into the bag. What he can see on his back: Strong for Scotland before he pulls out a yellow safety vest and slips on top of his black jacket. Strong for Scotland. And definitely better. This is his promise.
Robertson, 51 years old, white sneakers, jeans, has come to the south side of Edinburgh for the expedition. He goes from house to house and throws pamphlets in mailboxes. If there is no mailbox, he rings the doorbell and waits for someone to open. If not, he moves on. It is tiring, but sometimes funny. And because it is the last week before the election, Robertson is out for several hours twice a day.
