Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour, the author of remarkable performances with Scotland at Euro 2020, has joined Norwich on a one-season loan, the Premier League club announced on Friday.

The 20-year-old shone in a scoreless draw against England at Wembley before self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus.

Last season he made 11 first-team appearances in all competitions as Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League and won their second Champions League title.

“I can’t wait to be here, play as much as I can and help Norwich City compete in the Premier League”Gilmour said on the club’s website.

“I spoke to the head coach (Daniel Farke). He called me and we had a really good discussion about how he wants to play and how he sees me fit.” Gilmour said.

“Everything he said was in line with what I wanted to do on the pitch: bring the ball back and play good football”, Added Scotland International.

Norwich, promoted from the Championship in April, faced competition from other Premier League clubs to sign Gilmour, but Farke said the club’s reputation has helped him make his case.

“I think it has helped that in the past we have shown that young players with potential are in good hands here at Norwich City.”, he told.

“We are delighted to bring in Billy as we have lost a few players in the field” Midfield, said the 44-year-old German coach.
