Great Britain seeks to host tour starting in 2026

Great Britain is looking to host the start of the Tour de France in 2026. In addition to the so-called Grand Depart, phases are also planned in England, Wales and Scotland, as the Finance Ministry announced in London on Tuesday. This should enable people across the country to experience the top game for free. Head of the Department Rishi Sunak plans to provide a total of 40 million pounds (about 47.5 million euros) for sports applications when his budget is presented on Wednesday.

In addition to the start of the tour, Great Britain is also planning to host the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup. The ministry said a portion of the money would go to the campaign for a joint application with Ireland for the 2030 Men’s Football World Cup.

The move is part of the government’s plan to spice up infrastructure outside London and the relatively prosperous southeast and create similar living conditions across the country. 95 per cent of the investment for the start of the tour and 75 per cent for the Rugby World Cup is planned outside south-east England.
