Rhys Hoskins, Jay Bruce and Jean Segura provided the offense and Spencer Howard had his first big-league pitching win as the Phillies won the Washington Nationals over-6 at Citizens Bank Park on Monday night.
The win, following Sunday night’s defeat against Atlanta, was Phyllis’ sixth in the last seven games.
The Phils are 15-15 with 30 games to play in the split season. They are still on track to reach the target of nine wins in Bryce Harper’s 10 games. He went on to say that the team needed to turn things around after losing the fifth match in a row to the Phils in Atlanta on August 22 Gust.
The Phillies are 3-0 against defending World Series champions Nationals this season, playing three more games this week.
Washington is 12-20.
The fraudulent right-hander showed no side effects from the 11-day layoffs. His first four outs were strikeouts. He went in five innings and gave up five hits and two runs. The score came in the fifth inning when Howard gave Traina Turner one and Homer Juan Soto, who hit two in the game.
Rookie Jojo Romaro did a great job of saving from a 6-2 lead after leaving Howard. Romero had four outs, two on strikeouts. He has 6 strikeouts and one walk in three hitless innings since joining the club. He is throwing the ball with confidence.
The Phils will need to clear a spot on the 28-man roster to add David Phelps on Tuesday. It would be easy to get the rumor out to clear the roster spot, but he is throwing so well that the Phillies may have to think of another way.
Hunter on the roll
Tommy Hunter got four important stones, including three in eight, to save the lead. Two outs in the eighth came with runners in second and third.
In his last eight appearances, Hunter has managed just one run in 96 innings. He only walked one and scored eight in that period.
Something about it is flex.
Harkins and Segura are picking up some slicks as the Harkins and Jetty Realmuto cool down a bit.
Hoskins hit a solo homer in the first inning and a double club in the seventh. He has entered three straight games and four of the last five. He has eight RBIs in his last three games.
Segura had a three-run double in the fourth, giving him eight RBIs in his last six games.
Bruce took the second inning homer to I.L.
Phillies hit 41 homers in The Gust. It was only the 14th time in the club’s history that they reached 40 homers in a single month.
Three months for Phillies’ Homers:
46 – September 2019
44 – June 2004
43 – August 2009
A bullpen remake
Most of the original cast is gone. Take a closer look.
Even so …
Health Hembry and Brandon Workman, two new bullpen additions, should come closer to playing the game together to drop three homers.
They are all From here.
Now the next
Aaron Nola (3-2, 3.00) and Washington will play Washington lefty Patrick Corbin (2-2, 3.82) on Tuesday night.
