Which German city has the fastest mobile surfing – and where does the expansion of mobile communication still leave something to be desired?
Computer Build clarifies this question every year with an extensive network test, performed with its own test app and Computer Build’s readers: more than 900,000 measurements between January and October 2022. The basis for the answer to this question Let’s make things how they really are. Changing the German network is up.
BILD specifically mentions in advance the most important results of the measurement.
Mobile surfing is picking up in Germany
First good news: mobile surfing in Germany is getting faster and faster! Compared to the previous year, the average download rate across Germany increased from 47.1 to 62.7 Mbps. The main reason for this is the expansion of 5G network.
However, it benefits the city dwellers a lot. Here some of the telecom networks have reached the level of glass fiber. On the other hand, those who live in the country may have 5G now, but average speeds here with provider 02 were not dramatically higher than with the previous LTE technology.
30 cities compared
But what’s the specific situation in your city – and which provider has the best network?
Cologne is at the forefront when it comes to download speeds: mobile phone users surf there with an average of 172.1 Mbps. At the bottom is CZen: Here it averages only 46.7 Mbps. Telecom is ahead in most cities – but not all. Vodafone in Dresden has an edge at the Bochum O2.
All the statistics for the 30 cities broken down by provider and upload and download can be found in the table below. The full assessment of the network test, including a Germany-wide analysis of network coverage and a detailed comparison of all networks, can be found in the new issue of Computer Build 25/2022 – on kiosks from 2 December!
