5 Minute Carinthia: Murmeltierfots.de is one of Carinthia’s most beloved Instagram accounts. what’s it all about?
Martina Gerbert: Simply put, Mr. Big Boss and his family are true Carinthians and I have been visiting him regularly for over twelve years now. Meanwhile, I live in Carinthia most of the summer, as I also take pictures on behalf of local businesses, not only marmots but other animals, landscapes, hotels and whatever else comes along.
How long has the account been running and can you tell why the reels are getting thousands of views?
I would say three years ago. It was really only going on with video and reels. Before that I only had photographs, I am an animal photographer. Marmots are just great, put you in a good mood and distract you from the stressful everyday life. I don’t know anyone who isn’t captivated by your charm. Of course, it comes through especially well in video and I also enjoy telling stories, showing special or funny situations, and adding the right music to the whole thing in these reels. I also have many followers who look forward to stories and posts every day and write to me that it is a daily ray of hope for them in this crazy time.
Where Do Carinthian Marmot Models Really Live?
differently. Marmots are used to people, there are many places where you can get close to them, mostly tourist hotspots where they can get food. Now that I can tell marmots from a distance, I know their personalities and their behavior and they know me, which makes it easy to shoot a video like this. Although you have to say: they have a mind of their own and don’t always feel like participating.

The top model par excellence is MrBigboss, a good-natured senior who knows how to cut a really good figure and is certainly the most photographed marmot out there.
