Seven hours after the originally planned landing at Frankfurt am Main, the national football team was finally able to continue its return journey from the World Cup qualifiers in Iceland after a forced stop in Edinburgh, Scotland.
“We are now on a replacement plane. We are going straight to Frankfurt and Munich,” it said on the team’s Twitter account on Thursday afternoon. “Also in the bag: 9 points from 3 games”, was an addendum with a gleam in his eye.
The replacement machine had to go to Edinburgh first. He should now bring home the DFB delegation, players, coaching staff and supervisors around Hansi Flick.
faulty backup power generator
According to the Lithuanian airline, the charter plane that started in Reykjavik that night, carrying a large part of the crew, had to land at Edinburgh airport on Thursday due to a faulty backup power generator.
The crew decided to head to the nearest suitable airport. There was no danger to the passengers at any point, a normal landing had taken place.

The DFB convoy initially stayed in the aircraft, which was technically checked on the ground. The DFB insisted that “everyone” in the German travel group was doing well. “Safety first. Safe stopover in Edinburgh as a precaution,” the DFB team announced early in the morning. Coincidentally, not all players were on board the plane destined for Frankfurt am Main in Wednesday evening’s 4-0 win in Reykjavik. Some even visited their clubs in person.
Stoppage “unhappy” for FC Bayern
Bayern Munich sporting director Hassan Salihamidzic said on Thursday: “It’s unfortunate. It can always happen that a plane has to stop.”
Given Saturday’s Bundesliga top game at RB Leipzig and the Champions League opener at FC Barcelona, it’s a bit annoying for players to be upbeat. But Salihamidzic was convinced: “They’re all professionals, we’ll get it by Saturday.”
