UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged ASEAN countries to help prevent a volatile situation in Burma from worsening. And, if possible, lead a humanitarian aid mission in Burma.
Guterres said the United Nations special envoy to the United Nations would be sent to Christine Schner Bergner. Also went to Jakarta to coordinate with ASEAN officials and discuss outside the circle with ASEAN leaders
Rizal Sukma, an academic from Indonesia’s Center for International Strategic Studies and former Ambassador to Indonesia to ASEAN, sees the ASEAN Leadership Summit as the most tangible outcome in 54 years.
Sukma argues that concrete measures are urgently needed and “the outcome of this meeting cannot be expressed simply by expressing concern”.
Before the ASEAN summit, Malaysia and the Philippines stand up and support the Brunei authorities. As ASEAN President and ASEAN Secretary General or Representative will travel to the region in Burma
In addition, ASEAN officials are considering proposing a humanitarian mission to bring medicines, medical supplies and food for Burmese people. This could be the beginning of the possibility of a negotiating forum between the Burmese military dictator and the NUEG.
The Minister of Burmese Shadow Government, Mrs. Nava Sujan Lalso, pleaded with the ASEAN nations not to recognize the seizure of power in Burma. Because there is no righteousness
