All traffic has been kept on the M6 ​​due to multiple vehicle collisions.

Drivers are currently on the road southeast outside Junction 23 (Head. Island) and Junction 22 (Wingrington) this morning (December 7).

Delayed for up to an hour.

The incident was reported shortly before 7.30am and Highway North West has confirmed that drivers have been temporarily stopped.

A spokesman for Highway North West said: “The M6 ​​has been temporarily closed due to traffic collisions south of J23 (Headdick Island # A5780) to J22 (Warrington North # A59).

“Traffic officials are currently at the scene.”

It has not yet been confirmed how many vehicles were involved and if anyone was seriously injured.

Photos from the scene show heavy traffic in the area as motorists line up in each lane of the motorway.

Travel website IRIIX said: “All traffic on the M23 Southbound from J23A580 East Lankshire Road (Headcock C) to J22A49Winwick Link Link (Newton Le Willows) has been temporarily halted due to the accident.

“All traffic is held exactly before 07:40.”
