Cabot,The developer and operator of Master Plan Golf Resort Communities announced the acquisition of Castle Stuart in the Scottish Highlands. At the heart of the iconic property that will soon be known as the Cabot Highlands is the Castle Stuart Golf Links, designed by gulf digesto And golf magazine Ranked among the top 100 golf courses in the world. Like all Cabot properties, Cabot Highlands will offer great surroundings, world-class golf, exciting real estate opportunities and exceptional service.
“Castle Stuart has been the benchmark for exceptional Scottish golf since it opened thirteen years ago. It has helped us to manage the land and continue the original vision for the property,” said Ben Cowan-Dewar, Cabot CEO and co-founder We aim to create unforgettable memories in magical places, and there are only a few places in the world more impressive than the Scottish Highlands.”
Just five minutes from Inverness Airport and within driving distance of some of the area’s most famous golf courses, including Royal Dornoch, Nairn, Brora and Skibo Castle, Castle Stuart is part of the rich golfing offering in the Scottish Highlands. The route follows the coast of the Moray Firth and offers panoramic views and famous landmarks such as the Kessock Bridge and Chanory Lighthouse. Designed by the late Mark Parsinon and Gil Hanse, Castle Stuart’s rugged natural setting can best be described as a retreat for the game of golf. The course features water holes on one side and cliffs on the other, with rugged fairway contours and infinitely-sized greens perched on cliffs just above the ocean. The property also features an Art Deco inspired clubhouse, practice facility and putting green. A new short course is already in use and is due to open in the 2023 season.
Cabot is planning to build a second golf course designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Doak. The course is set on a cleared piece of land and is placed around the 400-year-old castle of Castle Stuart. The course will have a natural outline, meandering through hills and wide open country, and several holes with water. Planning for the course will begin in 2022, with construction scheduled to begin in 2023 and open in 2024.
“I am thrilled to be working with Ben Cowan-Dewar and the Cabot team,” said Tom Dok, architect. “We have been searching for the perfect destination for years. Our goal is to create a uniquely Scottish golfing experience that appeals to players of all skill levels with an authentic links style golf course that puts the golf hole front and center “
There will be a significant segment of the real estate community, with sales expected to begin in 2023. The old property will feature cottages inspired by the charming Scottish countryside with a sophisticated contemporary touch. When landlords are not present, their homes are available as luxury guest accommodations. The Cabot Highlands building will house retail stores, restaurants and community gathering places. Apart from golf, the destination offers incredible natural beauty and many outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, falconry, horseback riding and much more. The nearby city of Inverness is only ten minutes away and offers the opportunity to experience vibrant Scottish culture with its Victorian-era markets, cathedrals, museums, and restaurants. The Inverness area is also home to some of the best whiskey distilleries in Scotland, many of which offer year-round tours and tastings.
“I could not think of a better partner than Cabot to lead my next chapter. The work Cabot has done on the golf course and community in Cape Breton speaks for itself and I know that our dear founder, Mark Parsinon will be proud of the plans that go ahead to fulfill his original vision for the destination, said Stuart McCombs, general manager of Castle Stuart and future Cabot Highlands.
Cabot Highlands is the perfect complement to Cabot’s growing portfolio of luxury homes surrounded by world-class golf courses. The collection includes the award-winning Cabot Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, Cabot St. Lucia, which is expected to open in early 2023, and Cabot Revelstoke, which is under construction in British Columbia. Cabot recently announced the acquisition of its first US property in Florida, which will soon be known as Cabot Citrus Farm. Every property in Cabot is based on a deep understanding of place and the philosophy that truly great landscapes will stand the test of time. The land of the Cabot property dictates how fairs are held, where the greens are, and how the houses are to live in harmony amidst pristine nature.
