Several videos on social media show the clash, which took place when protesters marched to Frey’s house and asked for him to come out, according to WCCO-TV affiliated to CNN. The protesters asked Frey directly if he claimed to have funded the Minneapolis police department.
When Frey said no, the crowd whistled as he walked away. They also sang “Go home, Jacob, go home” and “shame”, according to video posted on Twitter.

In a statement to CNN, a Frey spokesman said the mayor “is adamant in his commitment to work with (Medaria) chief Arradondo towards deep structural reforms and eradicate systemic racism. He does not support the abolition of the police department” .

Frey told WCCO to support “massive structural reform” to review a racist system and face “inherent inequalities”.

The clash between Frey and the protesters comes as thousands of people nationwide call for police reform and protest over the death of unarmed African Americans, sometimes by law enforcement officials. The most recent deaths include George Floyd in Minneapolis, Breonna Taylor in Louisville and Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia.
The accident also comes a day after Frey signed a temporary restraining order with the state to impose immediate police reforms such as banning the use of chokes and requiring the chief of police to authorize the use of all control weapons. of the crowd, WCCO reported.
