The head of the Scottish government, Nicola Sturgeon, on Tuesday announced the launch of a vaccination campaign against the coronavirus for children from next Monday.
Sturgeon said in a statement that according to the “PA Media” website, all children aged 12 to 15 in Scotland will receive the Covid-19 vaccine, starting next Monday.
The move comes after the British Health Minister, Sajid Javid, on Twitter on Monday, approved a collective recommendation of the chief doctors of the four countries of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) who are over the age of 12. To vaccinate people. up to 15 years.
Javid speculated that vaccination would protect these children from the risk of contracting the coronavirus, in addition to reducing transmission of the infection in schools.
Health officials in the UK have previously opposed the idea of vaccinating people under the age of 16, saying the procedure “brings no benefit”.
