A day after Hurricane Younis passed, the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) issued a new wind warning on Saturday. It is in effect for the coast, the provinces of West and East Flanders and the province of Antwerp from 5 pm (till midnight). After a lull, Belgium will once again be on Yellow Alert from 1:00 PM on Sunday to 9:00 PM on Monday. This second warning will be applicable across the country.

The IRM has warned that this Sunday afternoon, gusts will again increase to 80 to 90 km/h. On Sunday evening, and during the night of Sunday through Monday, an active cold front will cross Belgium off the coast, with the potential for strong thunderstorms of 90 to 120 km/h.

If this condition is confirmed, the MRI may temporarily go to Code Orange. David Dehanov confirmed one possibility this Saturday evening. “Tomorrow we are again expecting strong wind, which may strengthen with rain later in the evening. Wind gusts of 100 km/h or more are possible at some places on this Sunday. That would be a reason to go on orange alert, but we will assess the situation. In any case, the weather will be stormy and damage cannot be ruled out,” explained the meteorologist at VTM Niues.

On Monday, there will be a lot of movement in the atmosphere with a speed of 80 to 100 kmph or even slightly higher.
