port au prince : in the Caribbean nation Haiti (Haiti(Severe earthquake) Saturday morning (Earthquake) more than 300 deaths were reported. At least 2,000 people were injured and thousands of homes were destroyed in an earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale. The country has been grappling with the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake.
The epicenter of the quake was reported 160 km south of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. There were seven aftershocks within a radius of eight kilometres.

“I was standing by the window of my house, and when I looked outside I saw buildings collapsing,” international news agency AFP 21 Cristela St Hilare reported.

According to local media reports, the quake affected the 160-km-long capital Port-au-Prince. The epicenter of the quake was reported to be below the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, although no tsunami warning was issued.
After the tragedy, a month of emergency has been declared in the country. Rescue work is in progress.

In January 2010, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck central Haiti, killing at least 200,000 people. More than three lakh people were injured. Half a million people are homeless.
