CHAN 2020 – Lydie Abebe Tafesse: Iron Lady

Ethiopia is the only woman on the list of chief referees for this CHAN 2020. The Jimma native once again had a chance to whistle in the opening match. As happened during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2018.

With a well-rounded record, Ethiopian Lidi Abe Tafesi got off to a great start. From the peak of his 40 years (April 30, 1980), he once again confirmed his position as an international arbitrator. In the late 2000s he was called to international matches. She participated in the African Cup of Nations women’s football in 2014, in particular, in 2016. She also interfered in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 in Canada.

After a complicated motherhood in 2017, she quickly returned to the top level. Lydie Tafesse was also on the whistle during the Cameroon-Nigeria semi-finals of the 2018 Women’s CAN. A match that later continued for 120 minutes and ended with a penalty. In December 2018, she was chosen from among the African referees selected for the final leg of the Women’s World Cup, which took place in France in mid-2019. She was whistling on 14 June 2019 for the match between the Japan and Scotland team.

Liddy Abbey has therefore confirmed her experience and met the expectations of CAF decision-makers for the official CHAN 2020 match. We can hope that he will once again be on the whistle in this tournament in the following days.
