With a capacity of 2.7 gigabits per second, this new link, located in Nova Scotia, will ensure the safety of Madelinots by allowing maintenance of residential and cellular telephone services, as well as Internet services, in the event of a simultaneous breakdown. Two submarine cables, as happened on November 29, 2018. To this date, the islanders had been with the mainland for several hours without telecommunications links.

Gilles Belanger, the Prime Minister’s parliamentary assistant, Gilles Belanger, said “the citizens of Oles-de-la-Madeleine will no longer be cut off from the rest of the world in the event of a storm and submarine cables breaking down.” On Monday, simultaneous use of two cables is extremely rare, but is still possible. Under the auspices of François Legault, Mr. Belanger is specifically working to ensure that all Quebecers have access to high-speed Internet connections by 2022, as promised by the Caquist government.

Investments of $ 1.1 million, two-thirds of which were assumed by the Quebec government, were necessary to activate this new microwave link. Thus it would ensure the strengthening of the network before the final commissioning of a third submarine telecommunications cable between the Gaspé Peninsula and the Magdalen Islands.
