Interesting views on climate protection were put forward at the Augsburg citizens’ meeting. The manner in which he was brought into the political discussion is questionable.
The city government was presented at the citizens’ meeting on Tuesday evening. Climate activists and their supporters skillfully exploited the legal framework of municipal codes by using the citizens’ assembly and majority structure to impose their subjects on the city council. Whether this occurred in a concerted action or whether the assembly was formed in this way cannot be clarified, but it is doubtful that the plenum corresponds to a representative cross-section of the population. And in principle it is also clear: if an interest group – with any orientation – should go to a citizens’ meeting and specifically bring its majority with it, it reduces the basic principle to absurdity.
