If just a decade ago, phones used to have only 8 GB of memory, today the new device can hold up to 1 TB of data.
According to experts, consumers now opt for 128GB smartphones, but it is also not a guarantee that the memory will run out over time.
When the phone memory gets full, the device slows down very quickly and some functions become unavailable, so it’s important to regularly check the “memory” of your phone’s memory.
Arnolds Lukosius, an expert from the Tele2 Innovation Office, gives advice on how to free up phone memory easily and simply. An expert recommends 5 simple ways to “clean up” your phone’s memory and make sure it doesn’t run out of time.
Organize regularly. Smartphones accumulate various unused files, gadgets, photos or videos that do no work and only take up space.
It is useful to periodically check and “clean up” the Photos Bin and My Files applications, which over time accumulate various downloaded documents.
Unused files can be removed manually or with special gadgets. Smart Cleaner will help iPhone users and Super Clean will help Android owners.
To free up space on your phone, you’ll also want to clear your Safari cache and browsing history: When you open Safari, select Clear history and website data.
Regularly deleting unnecessary files and browsing history will speed up your phone, protect you from potential viruses, and give you enough free space for new files.
1. Store your data in the cloud
Still getting enough space after getting rid of unused files and browsing history? You can transfer the most important data (photos, videos or documents) to a web server – the “cloud”, where you can safely store a large number of files and easily access them at any time.
If you lose or damage your phone, you are advised to set up automatic data synchronization to avoid losing essential data.
You can choose from the best-known and most widely used storage: Google Drive, One Drive, or Dropbox, and iPhone owners can also use iCloud cloud storage.
Most of the storage offered offer the first 2, 5 or 15 GB free, but you will have to pay to get more space.
2. Restore Factory Settings
If you want your phone to function as fast as it did when you bought it, it is recommended that you perform a “normal” cleaning every six months to restore your device to factory settings.
Before cleaning your phone this way, it’s important to move all the apps and files you use to a safe place (memory card or cloud), otherwise you’ll lose all the files on your phone.
To reset iPhone to factory settings, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.
On an Android phone, do the following: Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset > Reset phone “(restore phone data).
3. Choose Low Resolution
Photos and videos take up the most memory on the phone’s memory, as the latest technologies allow you to take photos in Live mode and record videos in very high 4K or 8K resolutions.
For this reason, even a short video can take up hundreds of megabytes of phone memory. If your phone runs out of space often, you should consider whether you really need high-definition video and Live Photos.
You can quickly and easily change the resolution in the phone’s camera app settings.
4. Use SD Card
This method to increase your phone’s memory will only work for owners of Android devices. The microSD card can store photos, videos, music files or even documents, but you won’t be able to store various applications or games on the card.
Apple devices don’t support memory cards, as do some non-Apple devices, so you’ll need to use the methods listed above to free up memory.
You can check in phone settings how much memory different files have stored and how much space is left on your device.
To check iPhone memory, press Settings > General > Storage, and Android memory is in Settings or My Device.
