The North Pole Festival, which featured a huge ice skating rink and a family ferris wheel, was called after organizers said it would be “in the best interests of our customers” to do so.

The event was to be held at Parker’s Peace from November 14 to January 3, 2021, featuring “gold standard” coronavirus health and safety measures.

Anyone with event tickets will now be contacted to arrange a refund.

The North Pole joins the list of other Christmas events canceled in Cambridgeshire due to the coronavirus epidemic.

The Mill Road Winter Fair 2020 was recently kicked off after organizers cited the government’s strict Covid-19 restrictions on public gatherings.

This year’s North Pole would include new attractions such as the panoramic ferris wheel and the three-lane ice slide. Other attractions would include a funfair, traditional alpine cabin bars and stalls for seasonal freshness, including mold wine and German Bretwurst sausages.

Organizers said today (October 12) in a Facebook post that they were “disastrous” for canceling this year’s event.

He said: “After careful inspection and consultation with the Cambridge City Council and after weighing a number of factors, we have come to the disappointing conclusion that it is in the best interest of our customers to cancel the North Pole, Cambridge.

“We appreciate your custom and support and can’t wait to return to Parker’s Peace 2021. If you have already booked a ticket for this year’s event, we will return your ticket as soon as possible.

“We are very sorry for the disappointment that caused us to process the refund and this is thanks to your patience.”

Fans of the North Pole reached out to Facebook to express disappointment at the news.

One woman said, “This has made us very sad. Do we always visit and always love it? I’m sorry xxx,” said one woman.

Another added: “It’s a shame for you too because it’s a big part of Christmas in Cambridge. Roll on 2021 !!”
