The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warned of a tsunami on Saturday after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake registered in the north-east coast of the country.

According to local media, the damage to Miyagi has not been reported and local authorities are inspecting the status of nuclear power plants in the area.

This earthquake and tsunami warning comes days after Japan celebrated the 10th anniversary of the horrific 9.0 magnitude earthquake that struck on March 11, 2011, which caused a devastating tsunami and nuclear accident at the Fukushima plant.
The devastation affected northeastern Japan, including Miyagi. Some residents of coastal communities said they had fled on high ground after a warning late Saturday night.
“Because of the experience of that day [de 2011], I left quickly. My heart is pounding, ”a person from the city of Ishinomaki told NHK that he ran into a park on a hill.
The Atomic Radiation Authority said that there are no reports of abnormalities in nuclear facilities in the area.
Japan is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the most actively operating areas on the planet, but its construction standards are strict so that buildings can withstand strong earthquakes.
