It was once royal! It was built in 1912 by a wealthy man. The building, known as Halala Kanda, was home to many celebrities at the time. Many celebrities like Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie and former Australian cricketer Keith Miller used to live in this bungalow and enjoy the green nature. This is an old saying. As time passed, the prestige of that bungalow diminished. Destroyed by the absence of caretakers, it fell into disrepair. Lives as a bungalow in the forest. Four friends had got this bungalow at such a time. They are the owners of this building which has a history of hundreds of years. This mansion, built on a hill near the town of Weligama in Sri Lanka, was acquired in 2011 at a cost of around Rs 2 crore.
By the time the four friends had their bungalow, all its splendor was gone. The walls were damaged. The whole building was loose. The bungalow became a haven for bats. Huge trees grew in front of the house and the building hit the roof. However, Sharp, an interior designer, and his friends Jenny Lewis, Richard Blissdale and Bentley de Beyer loved the bungalow. Bought it and renovated that bungalow again. He faced many challenges during this process. Reconstruction work on the bungalow started in December 2012. The renovation of the building has been completed so as to maintain the current state-of-the-art facilities without any historical damage. Along with this, a 23 meter tall water column has also been installed in the garden. The wonderful march brought revival.
It took almost two years to rejuvenate the bungalow. Now it has been converted into a resort by those four friends. This beautiful five-bedroom building can accommodate 12 people. The resort has a manager, a cook, two service staff, two gardeners and a security guard. A night at the resort costs around Rs. lakhs ($ 1300) will have to be paid.
