Munich/Frankfurt (DPA) – Due to bad tyres, a Lufthansa plane that originated in Munich canceled its flight to Chicago in the United States and landed at Frankfurt Airport. A Lufthansa spokesman said on Thursday that an Airbus 350 had taken off over the airport in Cologne en route to inspect tires from the ground. This is a normal procedure in such cases. The plane landed safely in Frankfurt with about 190 people on board. Earlier, many media had reported about this incident on Wednesday.
Tire parts were found on the runway after taking off in Munich. These could have been assigned to the Lufthansa machine, which was already over Scotland at the time. It wasn’t a tire burst, but the tire lining had come off.
Actually, the machine should have landed back in Munich. According to the spokesman, it went to Frankfurt due to bad weather in the Bavarian capital and only one runway was available at the time. It probably would have been blocked to search for loose tire parts again.
