New York City The restaurant, struggling to stay in business after months of closure imposed in the face of the coronavirus epidemic, received the long-awaited approval on Wednesday to resume limited indoor dining.
Also Los Angeles County Health officials have banned Halloween parties and said children should not be allowed to do tricks or treats during the popular holiday on October 31st.
Controversial measures have been taken against the United States off the coast as new coronavirus infections have been declining for seven consecutive weeks, but the death toll has risen to 1,190,000 nationwide since the outbreak in March, according to Reuters.
In New York City, Governor Andrew Cuomo Thousands of restaurants could resume indoor dining by September 30, although capacity is limited to 25%, it said Wednesday.
Cuomo had previously said lifting the ban could lead to a resurgence of the virus in New York, which has killed 32,000 more people than any other U.S. state.
The restaurant will also have to take meal temperatures and collect information from one member of each party for contact in case of an outbreak.
The state will establish a whistle-blowing system, through which the patron can anonymously report that the restaurant is not compliant.
Capacity could increase by up to 50% after an assessment conducted by Nov. 1, based on New York City infection rates, Cuomo said. Most of the state of New York operates with 50% capacity indoor dining.
In Los Angeles, health officials said children should not be allowed to do tricks or treats because it would be difficult to maintain proper social distance on the porch and at the front door and “because sharing food is dangerous.”
“Halloween gatherings, events or parties with out-of-home members are not permitted,” the department said in a statement entitled “Guidelines for Celebrating Halloween.”
County health officials also banned Halloween carnivals, festivals, live entertainment and haunted homes.
