Curling EM at Lillehammer - After the loss against Scotland: Swiss curlers threatened

Hours after a 1:7 defeat by de Cruz & Co, the women are clearly defeated by the Scottish leaders.

The Swiss Curlers suffered a third defeat in their 8th game at the European Championships in Lillehammer. The team around Skip Silvana Tirinzoni conceded defeat against the Scottish leaders after 8 ends with a score of 2:7. This means that the quartet can only reach the semi-finals with outside help. While Tirinzoni & Co. have to win against Italy, they still rely on the Czechs to beat Germany.

Ends 5 and 6 were fatal for Swiss women. First, Switzerland had to steal a stone from it. Two more were added as fourth Alina Patz missed the last stone in the 6th end. The team around Skip Eve Muirhead went 5:1, could not get away from this advantage and a little later celebrated their 7th victory in Norway.

Geneva is also dependent on outside help

Like the Swiss women, the men of CC Geneva around Skip Peter de Cruz will no longer be able to progress on their own. Assuming their victory in the last round-robin match against Germany on Thursday afternoon, the Swiss will advance to the semi-finals only if the Italians lose against the ambitious Finns, who have been relegated. There is little chance of that. Geneva will miss out on a medal for the second time in its 10th major tournament (World Cup, European Championship, Olympics).

On Wednesday the team showed two faces with Valentin Tanner, Peter de Cruz, Sven Mitchell and Benoit Schwarz. So in a 7–1 loss to Swiss World Cup runners-up Scotland, Skip led by Bruce Mouat was inferior to the Danish team led by Mikel Krauss in the evening. In the 5th end the Swiss stole 5 stones, in the 6th end the Dane gave up at 2:12.
