Yangon: Facebook Internet services have been temporarily banned in Myanmar.
In Myanmar, general elections were held last November. Aung San Suu Kyi’s National Democratic Party, Amoka, won 396 of the 476 seats in both houses of parliament. This is more than the number of seats won in the 2015 general election. The Solidarity and Development Party, considered the Military Party, won only 33 seats and the military made allegations of election fraud. However, they were unable to present related evidence. The Myanmar Election Commission has denied the allegations in a statement released on Friday “similar unfounded allegations about Myanmar’s military have been made more than once.”
In Myanmar, an interim ban on Internet services has been imposed. Websites including Facebook have been disabled.
Commenting on this, the Ministry of Communications said, ‘The use of Facebook causes misconceptions among people. As a result, Facebook will be banned until 7 February to maintain the country’s security.
