For the first time in ten years: Rangers Scottish champion, Premiership - Newsticker

With a lead of 20 points with just six games to go, leader Rangers, who had previously won 3-0 against St Mirren on Saturday, can no longer mathematically advance.

For the record champion, the 55th championship title marks the end of a long drought. Following bankruptcy, the club was dropped from the Scottish Premiership in 2012 and had to restart in the Fourth Division. Since then, arch rivals Celtic had won the Scottish Championship nine times in a row.

For former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard, this is his third season at Ibrox Park, his first trophy as coach. Gerrard’s former club Liverpool congratulated the club icon on Twitter on the huge success. “Congratulations to Steven Gerrard and his team on winning the Scottish League title from all of us at Liverpool FC,” the club wrote.

Rangers are still unbeaten this season. The win against St Mirren was the 28th win in the 32nd game. Fans celebrate at Ibrox Stadium after the home win. Hundreds of people flocked to Rangers’ home ground on Sunday to celebrate the title win. Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon then warned fans to be wise.

“I congratulate Rangers on the title and understand what a moment it must be for the fans,” she wrote on Twitter. However, the mob risked their lives and would delay the end of the lockdown for all. “If the visitors care even a little for the safety of others and the country, they go home.”
