Riyadh: There is good news for those coming to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage. They can now enter their biometric information through their smartphone without visiting visa centres. The feature is that foreigners applying for an electronic visa for pilgrimage will be able to do their biometric registration through a smartphone in their home country.

Mobile App has been released

The mobile application was released by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. Currently, Hajj and Umrah visa applicants visit the respective visa centers and register their biometric information such as fingerprints and eyes. There’s no need for this anymore. Upload biometric information through scanning instead of downloading and installing this mobile app on your smartphone. The Saudi Press Agency, citing officials, said that visa holders will be checked for biometric information upon arrival in Saudi Arabia.

The foreign minister said Saudi Arabia has become the first country in the world to provide the opportunity to enter biometric information via smartphone at home as part of a visa application. The new mobile app is part of Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s directive to provide maximum facilities for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. A Saudi company involved in the visa and travel sector will be responsible for the implementation of the project. The launch of the app was attended by Engineer Waleed Al Quraizi, Deputy Foreign Minister, Abdul Hadi Al Mansoori, Assistant Foreign Minister for Executive Affairs, and Tamim Al Dosari, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mecca Masjid accommodates more people

Meanwhile, in Mecca, authorities allowed more people to offer prayers around Masjid al-Haram. Most of the facilities were set up in a situation where one lakh people were allowed to perform Umrah in a day. According to the new decision, people above 70 years will be allowed to enter the harem. Sixty thousand people are allowed to enter Masjid-ul-Haram for Namaz. It was in this context that the facilities in the harem were increased. People are admitted to the harem by checking the Immune Status and Permits of the Tawakkalna App. The new requirement is that once Umrah is performed, a re-permit has to be obtained within 15 days of the expiry of the first permit. It is not permissible to offer prayers in Masjid al-Haram for more than one day at a time. Next day booking can be done only after one day permit expires.
