Hawaii discourages tourists from coming to the state until June

(CNN) – If you were thinking An early summer Hawaii vacation this year, the state governor hopes you think twice.

The state has cracked down on visitors who fail to comply with the quarantine, in some cases telling cheaters to completely leave the islands. The quarantine rule was established in mid-March and Ige said tourists should cancel the trip for at least 30 days.

All travelers visiting Hawaii are forced to quarantine for 14 days, which means that visitors must remain in their hotel rooms or residence for two weeks before the restrictions are lifted.

New arrivals are required to complete the documentation listing their contact and accommodation information and must sign the document acknowledging that the quarantine violation is a crime punishable by a $ 5,000 fine and up to one year in prison, according to the state transportation department.

“These actions are extreme, but necessary, to flatten the curve and lay the foundation for our recovery,” said Ige.

A number of visitors, including a honeymoon couple, were arrested by police for ignoring state emergency pandemic orders that required self-quarantine for 14 days.

“We, like most of the United States, are still facing the challenges of this pandemic,” Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell told CNN. “But right now, we see traveling how to carry the virus and we would prefer that people don’t come until it is safe to travel again.”

According to John Hopkins University, Hawaii has 637 coronavirus cases and 17 deaths. There are at least 1,419,863 coronavirus cases in the United States and at least 85,964 people have died.
