Hiker trapped in the hot tub, saved by the officer using the cable from the backpack

Apparently the hiker misjudged the swiftness of the water as he tried to cross Angel Falls in California, police said, and got trapped in the cold spring water that ran 50 to 80 feet per second.

California Highway Patrol officer Brent Donley, who was trained in search and rescue, was also hiking in the area near Bass Lake in County Madeira.

Donley used a strap from his backpack and tied it around a branch so the hiker could grab it, police said. He threw the branch towards the man and then spoke to him during the rescue, according to a video posted by the California Highway Patrol Fresno.

With the help of a group of other hikers, Donley rescued the man, who was not named. He provided first aid until the search and rescue officers arrived.
