Horror shots from flash floods: Roads have turned into violent rivers, nine dead!

According to the Turkish Meteorological Service, heavy rainfall in Kastamonu, Bartin and Sinop provinces should last until at least Friday. On television and social networks, footage of flooded streams and flooded streets can be seen, through which a stream of water carried the wreckage of dozens of cars, branches and buildings.

All the victims confirmed so far are from Kastamonu province, of whom two people died in the landslide. Some villages in the neighboring province of Bartin were completely cut off from the world’s great waters as it destroyed access roads and bridges. Local people are being evacuated by helicopter. The Ministry of Power said that about 10,000 households do not have electricity supply.

Turkey’s northern regions are hit by frequent flash floods in the summer, which killed eight people last year.

In addition to the effects of the floods, Turkey is also battling wildfires that have been triggered by high temperatures and drought over the past two weeks. At least eight people lost their lives. Turkey’s Forest Minister Bekir Pakdemirli wrote on Twitter on Wednesday that a massive fire in Mugla province has been brought under control after 14 days. Firefighters remain in place to douse the remaining three outbreaks in the country’s southwest.
